Vocabulary: Describing People

1. Look at the photos and listen to three people talking about someone in their family. Who is each speaker describing?

  1. Lucas is describing his brother. (брат)
  2. Alfie is describing his sister. (сестру)
  3. Alina is describing her dad. (тата)

2. Add the words to the table.

  • Age: elderly, middle-aged, teenage, in his/her (early/late) twenties/thirties
  • Looks: attractive, good-looking, handsome, pretty
  • Hair: bald, curly, dark, fair, straight

3. Describe someone in the photos. Can your partner guess who it is?

He’s a teenage boy and he’s good-looking. (Він підліток і гарний.)

4. Choose the correct adjectives. Then listen and check.

  1. I think Lucas is really polite. (ввічливий)
  2. My brother’s called Alfie. He takes my things without asking. He thinks he’s funny, but he doesn’t make me laugh.

5. Match the adjectives to their opposites in Ex. 4.

7. Work in pairs. Describe someone you both know. Describe what they look like and what kind of person they are. Can your partner guess who it is?

1. Have you got something similar in your school?

1. Read the two online profiles. Which person is most like you? Why?

The person who is most like me is Snowy (Anton) because I also like music and play a musical instrument. I think I am friendly and intelligent too.

2. Read the Prepare to write box. Which phrases do Anton and Felicity use in their profiles?

4. Add highlighted adverbs to the table.

Make adjectives weaker: fairly, quite (досить, трохи), a bit
