Writing an essay about people's holiday preferences

Different people have different holiday preferences. Some of them like to spend their vacations at the seaside. Others go to the mountains, travel abroad or prefer a relaxing holiday at home.

I am going to tell you about holiday preferences of the British. Two-thirds of all British people have their holidays in July and August, which are the most popular months for holidays. English school children are on holiday from the end of July to the beginning of September. The traditional British holiday is a seaside holiday. Children enjoy swimming in the sea and building sandcastles. There are places near the sea, such as Blackpool, Scarborough and Bournemouth, where there is plenty to do even if it rains.

Europe is the most popular destination for UK residents, accounting for 80 per cent of visits abroad. Spain has been the most popular country to visit, then go France and Italy.

The holiday habits of the British are changing nowadays. Increasing levels of affluence mean that, for many families, a second foreign holiday - often a winter skiing holiday - is possible City breaks are also growing in popularity, and not only to nearby destinations - Las Vegas, Dubai and Cape Town are all favourites for long weekends. And independent travel is becoming more and more popular as the Internet allows holidaymakers to find the best deals online.
